The Federal Government has introduced a new initiative to support technical college students across Nigeria. According to Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), students will receive a monthly stipend of N45,000. This initiative aims to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and increase enrollment in technical colleges.

Key Features of the Initiative: 🔑

👉 Monthly Stipend: Technical college students will receive N45,000 monthly to support their education.

👉 Teaching Fees Coverage: The government will cover teaching fees to reduce financial burdens on students.

👉 Industry-Based Supervisors: The government will pay industry-based supervisors who oversee students during industrial attachments.

👉 Skill Certification: The government will finance the cost of skill certification for students.

👉 Grant Allocation: President Bola Tinubu has allocated a N120 billion grant to support students under the new TVET initiative, which will be disbursed through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund).

👉 Objectives and Impact:

The initiative seeks to reposition the TVET sector, making it more attractive to young people and enabling them to acquire skills qualifications, secure jobs locally and internationally, and contribute to the country's economic development. The program emphasizes hands-on skills in various vocations, including carpentry, ICT, plumbing, construction work, agriculture, CNG vehicle conversion, and renewable energy.

👉 Sustainability and Expansion:

To sustain and expand the program, the Minister of Education is championing a legislative bill to establish a National Skills Fund under a new Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). The bill is expected to be presented to the National Assembly soon.
