The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies has given the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) a 24-hour ultimatum to appear before it. The committee is investigating concerns surrounding the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Background: 👇

The committee had previously invited WAEC to clarify issues related to the exams, but WAEC failed to appear. Chairman Hon. Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji expressed disappointment over WAEC's absence, citing widespread complaints and irregularities during the exams.

Concerns: 👇

👉Midnight Exams: Reports of students writing exams as late as midnight in some centers.

👉 Irregularities: Serious irregularities have been reported during exams.

👉 Public Concern: The committee emphasized the need to address public anxiety and ensure these challenges don't recur.

Ultimatum:❗

The committee expects WAEC to appear on Friday, May 30, 2025, without fail. Failure to comply may prompt the House to invoke its constitutional powers to compel attendance. The chairman emphasized that the intention is not to witch-hunt WAEC but to seek answers and ensure the challenges are addressed.
