The Abia State government has launched a digital school census for all public and private schools, including military, paramilitary, and faith-based institutions. The census aims to gather accurate data to inform education decisions and improve the sector.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, announced that the census would begin on May 20, 2025, and end on May 30, 2025. Principals and proprietors are required to log in to the NEMIS portal using their official school code to submit data.

The government warned that failure to participate may result in schools being classified as non-existent and potentially shut down. Traditional rulers, local government officials, church leaders, and school management committees have been urged to ensure compliance.

Schools without a code can obtain it free from their Local Government Education Authority. The NEMIS portal is compatible with smartphones, tablets, or computers, allowing schools to complete the process using any internet-enabled device.
