The Kwara State government has expanded its Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, a trailblazing initiative aimed at equipping students with digital skills. Initially launched in 2024 with a pilot phase involving 684 students across six schools, the programme now targets 7,500 students across 50 public secondary schools in the state.

Programme Objectives:

- To position Kwara as a regional hub for innovation, technology, and digital opportunity
- To prepare a future workforce that can lead innovation across Africa
- To promote digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and sustainable development

Programme Progress:

- As of April 25, 2025, 5,503 students (73.4% of the target) have been onboarded
- Breakdown of figures:
    - Kwara North: 1,222 students (22.20%)
    - Kwara South: 2,186 students (39.70%)
    - Kwara Central: 2,095 students (38.10%)
    - Male students: 2,564 (46.6%)
    - Female students: 2,939 (53.4%)

Government's Commitment:

- The programme is part of the present administration's broader agenda to promote digital innovation and entrepreneurship in the state
- The government has also commissioned the Ilorin Innovation Hub to support startups, digital creators, and tech entrepreneurs

Impact:

- The programme has recorded an impressive uptake, underscoring the increasing appeal and relevance of digital education among Kwara's youth
