Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates has announced plans to donate nearly all of his vast fortune, approximately $198 billion, to charitable causes through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. By 2045, Gates aims to have given away 99% of his wealth, retaining only about $1.6 billion for himself and his family.

The foundation, established in 2000, has already spent over $100 billion on global health, education, and poverty alleviation initiatives. Gates cited the urgent need to address pressing global issues as the reason behind his decision to accelerate the donation of his wealth.

The foundation's closure is planned for December 31, 2045, after which its resources will be fully depleted. Gates expressed pride in the foundation's achievements, including saving over 80 million lives through partnerships with organizations like Gavi and the Global Fund.
