The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended a final-year student of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Helen Kayode, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping. The police said Helen sent a viral message to her sister claiming she had been kidnapped, which caused widespread panic in Iworoko-Ekiti and Ado-Ekiti.

However, investigations revealed that Helen's claim was false, and she had actually spent the night with her boyfriend before traveling to Lagos. According to the police, Helen confessed that she sent the message to stay back in Ado-Ekiti and celebrate her birthday with her boyfriend, who had promised her a surprise package.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has condemned the incident and warned that those who spread false information will face the full force of the law. The police command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property in Ekiti State.
