The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has called for the phase-out of satellite campuses in tertiary institutions, citing their unsustainability and inefficiency. Alausa emphasized the need for streamlined tertiary education, urging institutions to consolidate their campuses for improved value.

The minister announced a new policy requiring institutions to have at least 2,000 students to access Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) support. This move aims to ensure efficient utilization of funds and promote institutional growth.

Alausa also highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen local academic institutions, including establishing 28 centers of excellence for postgraduate education and research. The government is reducing foreign scholarships, citing concerns that many students fail to return and contribute to national development.

TETFund Executive Secretary Sonny Echono echoed the minister's sentiments, emphasizing the need for sustainable funding models and Public-Private Partnerships. Echono warned that institutions failing to meet performance benchmarks or mismanaging funds risk losing TETFund support.
