Nigeria's government has discontinued its scholarship program for students studying abroad, citing the availability of high-quality courses within the country's own universities and polytechnics. Education Minister Morufu Olatunji Alausa announced the decision, stating that public funds would be better utilized to strengthen Nigeria's educational institutions.

The move is part of President Bola Tinubu's economic reform efforts, which aim to address the country's financial challenges. While the reforms have led to increased inflation, the government believes they are necessary for long-term growth. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed support for the reforms, noting that the benefits have yet to reach all Nigerians, with many still struggling with poverty and food insecurity.

Students currently enrolled in foreign programs will continue to receive funding until the end of their studies. The government plans to redirect resources to improve Nigeria's own universities, providing better opportunities for students within the country.
