The President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Musa, has expressed concern over the consistent dominance of Ghanaian students in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) International Excellence Awards. Musa attributed this to systemic issues in Nigeria's education system, including inadequate preparation, poor study habits, and a lack of depth in syllabus coverage.

He noted that many Nigerian students lack awareness of the competition beyond their local context and are often satisfied with just passing their exams. Musa also criticized parents for enrolling underage children in secondary schools and not providing adequate support for their studies.

The ANCOPSS President highlighted the differences in secondary education structures between Nigeria and Ghana, with Ghana employing specialized schools based on academic disciplines. He also pointed out that teachers' lack of participation in marking WAEC or NECO examination scripts negatively impacts students' preparation.

Musa called for improvements in teaching methods, subject knowledge, and infrastructure to enhance students' performance. He also questioned the sustainability of Nigeria's free education policies and the country's preparedness for the upcoming digital format of WAEC and NECO exams.
