The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that it cannot release the results of over 40,000 underage candidates who sat the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination until the Court of Appeal rules on the matter.
The board had appealed a Delta State High Court ruling that barred it from enforcing its policy on a minimum admission age of 16 years. The court's decision came after a suit was filed challenging JAMB's policy, arguing that it violated the 1999 Constitution.
JAMB's Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the release of the results is subject to the appeal court's ruling. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies has apologized to Nigerians over technical issues that marred the 2025 UTME, attributing the glitches to human error rather than a system failure.
The committee chairman, Oboku Oforji, commended JAMB's registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for accepting responsibility and apologizing to affected candidates and parents. The committee called for an independent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the errors and proposed reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
