Education Minister Tunji Alausa has voiced his opposition to a proposed bill that seeks to establish a federal college of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition in Borno State. Presenting a memorandum at a public hearing, Alausa emphasized the need to prioritize funding for existing institutions over creating new ones. He cited the federal government's policy of equitable distribution of federal institutions across states, noting that every state should have at least one federal polytechnic.

Alausa encouraged states and individuals to explore establishing private tertiary institutions, highlighting the ministry's streamlined process for doing so. Due to current financial constraints, he recommended halting plans for the proposed college.

In contrast, bill sponsor Usman Balami argued that the college would play a vital role in addressing youth unemployment by providing practical skills training. He emphasized the importance of equipping young Nigerians with market-relevant skills to succeed in a rapidly changing job market.

Committee Chairman Fuad Laguda noted that the bill would enable Nigerians to acquire skills across various fields, including social sciences, arts, humanities, technology, and vocational education.
