JUST IN 🔥🔥 STUDENT LOAN: MINISTER MEETS VCs OVER NANS PROTESTS.

The Federal Government’s student loan scheme is under fire over alleged mismanagement. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is meeting with heads of tertiary institutions accused of mishandling funds, aiming to train bursars and ICT staff and launch a compliance tracking platform to boost transparency.

The ICPC revealed that out of N100bn disbursed by NELFUND, only N28.8bn reached students, sparking protests by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who demanded accountability and action from anti-corruption agencies.

NELFUND denies the missing funds, blaming delays on verification processes and late applications by final-year students. Despite criticisms, officials insist the scheme remains a vital policy, with over 576,000 applicants requesting loans worth N170.4bn.

Stakeholders are now pushing for reforms, digitisation, and broader awareness to restore public trust and ensure the scheme delivers on its promise.
