Nurses at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) staged a protest over the arrest of three colleagues by the Nigeria Police Force. The nurses were accused of negligence after a patient died without recorded data. The protest involved about 200 nurses who barricaded the hospital gate, preventing visitors and vehicular movement.

According to reports, the patient was brought in by a good Samaritan who made some payments for treatment before leaving. After the patient's death, the family demanded information about the good Samaritan, but the nurses couldn't provide it, leading to the police arresting three staff members.

The nurses marched to the hospital gate and later to the Cross River State Police Command headquarters, demanding the release of their colleagues. The police blamed the nurses for negligence, citing the lack of recorded data. However, the Commissioner of Police later instructed the release of the arrested nurses.

The incident disrupted hospital operations, with patients and visitors unable to access the facility. Relatives of deceased patients were also affected, with some being prevented from depositing bodies in the morgue. The hospital's chief medical director was unreachable for comment.
