The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) at the University of Ilorin have criticized the Federal Government's sharing formula for the N50 billion earned allowances for university workers. The government allocated 80% of the funds to academic staff, leaving 20% for non-teaching staff, including SSANU, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists.

The unions have rejected this formula, describing it as unjust, inequitable, and unfair. SSANU Chairman, Falowo Olushola, stated that the formula is "robbing Peter to pay Paul" and a threat to institutional harmony. He emphasized that both teaching and non-teaching staff contribute to the university's operations and should be treated fairly.

Olushola called on the Federal Government and the Minister of Education to intervene and halt the implementation of the formula, warning that it could trigger an industrial crisis. He urged stakeholders to address the issue before it degenerates into a full-blown crisis, threatening the peace and stability of public universities.

NASU Chairman, Zuberu Ibrahim, also rejected the formula, suggesting a 50/50 or 60/40 split would be more fair. Both unions are demanding a more equitable distribution of the funds, emphasizing the importance of fairness and justice in the treatment of all university staff.
