Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has appointed Professor Carol Arinze-Umeobi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor. The appointment, effective May 19, 2025, follows her nomination by the University Senate and approval by the Governing Council.

According to her appointment letter, signed by Pro-Chancellor Barrister M. Olugbenga Kukoyi, Professor Arinze-Umeobi will serve for a maximum period of six months or until a substantive Vice Chancellor is appointed.

As Acting Vice Chancellor, she will oversee the university's day-to-day operations, lead academic and administrative functions, and represent the university in various capacities. Her appointment has been endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Professor Arinze-Umeobi's appointment comes after a period of transition at the university, with previous Acting Vice Chancellors being appointed and removed. The Governing Council has congratulated her on her appointment and expects her to lead the university with distinction during her tenure.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike.
