Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, revealed that his administration inherited a dire situation in the education sector, including ₦3.2 billion in debts owed to WAEC and NECO, which prevented students from taking exams for two years. His government has since settled these debts and cleared pension arrears totaling ₦13.6 billion dating back to 2011. Lawal declared a state of emergency in education upon assuming office in May 2023 and has been working to improve the sector.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS 
- Debt Settlement: ₦3.2 billion WAEC and NECO debts paid
- Pension Arrears: ₦13.6 billion settled without borrowing
- Infrastructure Development: Over 450 primary and secondary schools, and some tertiary institutions renovated
- Local Government Projects: Each of the 14 local governments has projects worth ₦5-10 billion

Lawal also highlighted the significant improvement in the state's internally generated revenue (IGR), from ₦90 million to over ₦2 billion monthly. He challenged his predecessor's camp to provide evidence of alleged ₦14 billion in state funds, questioning why salaries, WAEC, NECO, and electricity bills weren't paid when such funds existed.
