The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted a provisional license to Benue State to establish a new university, the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, located in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area. This brings the total number of state-owned universities in Nigeria to 68 and the overall number of universities to 299.

Key Highlights:👇🏾

👉 Provisional License: The NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, presented the license to Benue State's Deputy Governor, Samuel Ode.
👉 Expectations: The NUC expects the university to adhere to quality assurance guidelines, character development, and effective academic program management.
👉 Future Evaluation: The NUC will conduct a follow-up evaluation to assess the university's facilities, infrastructure, human capital, and resources.
👉 State's Commitment: Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed gratitude and assured the NUC that Benue State will provide necessary amenities and platforms to help the university reach its full potential.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike. The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law.
