A significant number of federal universities, polytechnics, and monotechnics have missed the May 31, 2025 deadline set by the Federal Government to update their websites with key institutional data, including financial records. The directive aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria's tertiary education system.

Compliance Rates %

According to checks, only 32 of 64 federal universities, 10 of 41 polytechnics, and 3 of 90 monotechnics have complied with the directive. This translates to a 50% compliance rate for federal universities, 19.51% for federal polytechnics, and 3.33% for federal monotechnics.

Consequences 👇🏾

The Minister of Education had emphasized that the Federal Ministry of Education would conduct periodic reviews of institutional websites and take administrative actions against non-compliant institutions. The Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership is also monitoring compliance.

Minister's Response 🗣️

The Special Assistant to the Minister of Education, Olanrewaju Lamina, stated that the May 31 deadline remains in effect, and no extension has been announced. The Ministry remains committed to transparency and accountability in the education sector and will take necessary actions to ensure full compliance by all institutions.
