Students of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti FUOYE have accused the university management of manipulating the recent Student Union Government elections to favor preferred candidates. In separate interviews with Hõlå INFO ONLINE, students alleged that the management compromised the integrity of the May 24, 2025, elections.
Allegations of Favouritism 👇🏾
A student, Ajayi, claimed that electoral guidelines were disregarded, and the election was skewed. "There was favouritism and injustice in the election... The election was supposed to start at 9:00 am and end by 3:00 pm, but it was delayed until 12:30 pm due to technical issues."
Ajayi further alleged that the election was extended without explanation, and the results were manipulated. "By 5:00 p.m., when our presidential candidate was leading, they announced an extension without any explanation... We tried using VPNs, but nothing worked."
Manipulation Allegations Echoed 👇🏾
Another student, Ola, echoed Ajayi's claims, accusing the university's ICT team and management of colluding to influence results. "They manipulated the elections... The ICT crew and the school management were behind it... They extended the election beyond the six-hour limit stated in the guidelines."
Call for Rerun 👇🏾
Ola begged for a rerun of the election, saying, "We want a rerun of the election and to follow their own rules to the letter."
Marginalisation Allegations 👇🏾
A third student, Remi, accused the university of marginalising the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and manipulating the vote count. "This isn't the first time the management has rigged elections to favour their chosen candidates... The election was officially scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but it didn't begin until noon due to so-called technical glitches."
University's Response 🗣️
However, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Wasiu Oyedoku-Ali, dismissed the allegations as unfounded. "These allegations are far from the truth... The acting Vice-Chancellor ensured that no one tampered with the election results."
Oyedoku-Ali explained that technical issues caused delays but insisted that stakeholders were consulted before changes were made. "There were indeed technical glitches... but we involved the ASUU chairman and created a monitoring team for the elections."
