The Students Union Government of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and alumni bodies have expressed strong opposition to the renaming of the institution after the late former Governor Omololu Olunloyo. The decision to rename the polytechnic was announced by Governor Seyi Makinde, citing Olunloyo's legacy as the institution's first Rector.

The students' union president, Oladipupo Olamide, stated that the renaming would erase the institution's identity and legacy, causing irreparable harm to its reputation and alumni. The name "The Polytechnic, Ibadan" has been synonymous with quality education for over 50 years, producing outstanding graduates who have made significant contributions to society.

The students' union urged the governor to reconsider the decision and retain the institution's original name, which reflects its history, values, and mission. They expressed willingness to engage in dialogue to find alternative solutions that benefit the institution.

Members of the institution's alumni community also rejected the renaming, calling for an immediate review. Yomi Akande, an alumnus and leader of the Non-Academic Staff Union, expressed dissatisfaction among alumni, stating that the change would not bring any new development to the school. The alumni emphasized the significance of the institution's name, which holds recognition worldwide.
