The Niger State Government has directed the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, due to recent security breaches and loss of lives within the university community. The directive was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
The university will remain closed until further notice, as the state government prioritizes the safety and security of all citizens, including students. The government expressed deep sorrow over the incidents and assured that urgent measures are being taken to address the situations.

The state government urged the university community to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security authorities during the closure. The government reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that those responsible for the security incidents are brought to justice.
