The University of Ilorin's Faculty of Law has been recognized as having the highest number of Ph.D. holders among law faculties in Nigeria, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole. Speaking at a postgraduate retreat, Egbewole praised the faculty's academic excellence and encouraged staff to align their teaching and research with societal needs.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of timely programme completion and urged staff to reposition their efforts to inspire students to pursue doctoral degrees. He also praised the retreat as a significant initiative to enhance postgraduate education.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Nimah AbdulRaheem, highlighted the need to standardize postgraduate programmes, improve research methodologies, and ensure consistent supervision practices. Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Bamidele Owoyele, advocated for regular curriculum updates, integration of artificial intelligence, and specialized legal postgraduate degrees.
The retreat aimed to rethink postgraduate programmes, improve academic quality, and promote lifelong engagement. The Faculty of Law's strong postgraduate enrolment and research output were praised, and its role in securing prestigious training programmes was recognized.
