NYSC Begins Payment of Arrears to Corps Members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced payment of arrears to corps members as part of the newly implemented monthly allowance. According to recent payments, corps members received N44,000 in arrears in addition to their regular N77,000 allowance.
This development follows an assurance made by NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Olakunle Nafiu, in April that corps members who had completed their national service would receive the arrears. The N77,000 allowance was introduced in September 2023 as part of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Although the government signed the minimum wage bill into law earlier, the implementation of the new allowance was delayed due to financial and administrative constraints. Payments finally began in March, with the arrears now being settled.
