The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Yobe State University (YSU) has begun an indefinite strike to press home their demands. The strike was announced by the chapter's Chairman, Dr. Ahmed Karage, at a news conference in Damaturu.

Consequential adjustment arising from the implementation of 2024 and 2019 minimum wage, including arrears/variations.
Appropriate promotion placements and yearly increment, payment of arrears of yearly increment for staff, and payment of promotion arrears from 2018 to 2024.
Payment of 35% and 25% salary award consequential adjustment from 2023 to date.
Granting of autonomy to Yobe State University as provided by the University (Miscellaneous Provisions) Autonomy Act 2003.

Despite several reminders, the government has failed to take necessary action, leading to a loss of morale among academic staff.
The situation has severely impacted the staff's ability to function effectively, making it difficult to fulfill their core mandate of teaching, research, and contributing to national development.

The ASUU chairman regretted the disruption the strike would cause to students and their families and solicited for their understanding and solidarity.
