The National Association of Polytechnics Students (NAPS) has expressed support for the federal government's plan to transform Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) into a Technical and Vocational University. NAPS President, Comrade Eshofune Oghayon, stated that the association is not entirely comfortable with the decision to convert Yabatech into a university, but they are willing to work with the authorities.

Oghayon noted that Yabatech has contributed significantly to national development and industrial growth. He suggested that instead of converting the institution into a conventional university, it could offer degree programs in technology while retaining its current structure.

The Rector of Yabatech, Dr. Engr Ibraheem Abdul, explained that the plan to convert the institution into a university began in 2000 and has been consistently pursued. He emphasized that the conversion is not imposed or politically influenced, but rather a natural progression based on the institution's strengths in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

After discussions with the Rector, NAPS executives agreed to support the transformation into a specialized university of technical and vocational studies. The Rector urged students to work together for national development, emphasizing that there should be no feelings of superiority or inferiority.
