President Bola Tinubu, represented by Engr. Nurudeen Balogun, North-Central Representative on the Board of Trustees of TETFund, commissioned two completed TETFund projects at the Federal College of Education, Odugbo. The projects include a Block of Classrooms with an Auditorium and an Early Grade Reading Resource Centre, built with TETFund intervention funds.
Tinubu commended the College's Provost, Professor Joel Obo Eriba, and the Management team for accessing TETFund intervention funds, which facilitated the completion of the projects. He charged the Management to sustain the relationship between the College and TETFund and expressed gratitude to the host community for their hospitality and collaboration.
Tinubu noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda aims to explore students' earning potentials, stimulate enrollment, and make graduates productive and employable. He announced plans to implement specialized programs that would address students' practical teaching needs.
Professor Eriba expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the yearly support towards tertiary education development through TETFund. He acknowledged the critical role of TETFund in tertiary education and highlighted the College's benefits from TETFund interventions, including physical infrastructure, ICT, library resources, and academic staff training.
Eriba noted that the quality of teacher education in Nigeria has declined due to negative attitudes towards teachers, poor remuneration, lack of motivation, and poor image in society. However, he expressed confidence that the Federal College of Education, Odugbo, is poised to work towards realizing the Federal Government's lofty goals.
