Workers of the Federal Polytechnic Ekowe in Bayelsa State have embarked on a protest over the withholding of their June 2025 salaries and check-off dues. The protesting workers, members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), shut down the institution's liaison office and the lodge of the Rector, Dr. Lukman Adegoke, in Yenagoa.
NASU accused the Rector of executive rascality and abuse of office for disregarding the window given to them to settle out of court.
The union alleged that the Rector withheld the workers' salaries and check-off dues, despite previous agreements.
NASU demands the immediate release of the withheld salaries and check-off dues.
The union wants the Rector to implement worker-friendly policies and respect the rights of workers.
Other branches of NASU in Bayelsa State, including the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, Bayelsa State Polytechnic, and College of Education, Sagbama, have expressed solidarity with the protesting workers.
The union leaders have called on the Federal Government to intervene and put an end to the situation.
