The University of Ibadan has suspended student activist Aduwo Ayodele, a 400-level History student, for four semesters over a peaceful protest against a fee hike. The suspension also includes a prohibition from participating in Students' Union affairs and mandatory counseling sessions.
Students, including Aduwo, staged a protest against the fee hike on May 13, 2024, during a Students' Union event.
The students were arrested by the University of Ibadan security unit and later summoned before the Students' Disciplinary Committee.
The students were accused of misconduct, including "insubordination/unruly behavior" for obstructing the inauguration event.
Terms of Suspension: 😿
✓ Aduwo Ayodele will be suspended for four semesters.
✓ He is prohibited from participating in Students' Union affairs.
✓ He is required to undergo counseling sessions.
The suspension has sparked widespread public backlash, with many criticizing the university's handling of the situation.
