The Government of the Czech Republic has opened applications for its fully funded scholarship programme for the 2026/2027 academic year, inviting candidates from Nigeria and 11 other developing countries to study at top public universities.

Since the late 1950s, over 20,000 international students have earned degrees in the Czech Republic through this initiative, which forms part of the nation’s foreign development cooperation strategy.

The scheme covers tuition fees, living stipends (CZK 16,000–17,000 monthly), and programmes in either Czech or English. Available courses range from Bachelor’s and Follow-up Master’s to Doctoral programmes, with some requiring a preparatory Czech language year.

Eligible countries include Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus (democratic forces), Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Jordan, and Guatemala.

Applications must be submitted online by 30 September 2025, with selection based on academic qualifications, entrance exams, and language proficiency tests.

                        1 minutes read ⏱️ 9:45pm The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of several officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU], Imo State University [IMSU] Chapter, in connection with the ongoing strike action by the union. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike. The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law. ASUU-IMSU had embarked on strike to press home demands including payment of arrears, improved funding, and implementation of agreements with the state government.
