The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has placed 6,458 results from the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) under investigation for suspected cases of high-tech malpractice.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this on Monday in Abuja while inaugurating a 23-member Special Committee on Examination Infractions. He expressed concern that examination fraud in Nigeria has become increasingly advanced, moving far beyond traditional methods.

“This year, we encountered several unusual cases. We felt it necessary to broaden our approach and draw on the nation’s wealth of expertise,” Oloyede explained.

According to him, the suspicious cases involve identity manipulation and biometric fraud, allegedly carried out by some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in collaboration with candidates.

While 141 instances of conventional malpractice have already been referred to JAMB’s disciplinary committee, the newly inaugurated panel will concentrate on more complex schemes, including image blending, falsified albinism claims, finger pairing, and attempts to compromise CBT centre networks.

“Examination malpractice must be confronted with all seriousness,” Oloyede stressed, warning that unchecked fraud threatens the credibility of Nigeria’s education system and the reputation of the country as a whole.

He directed the committee to submit its findings within three weeks, noting that delays could deny innocent candidates their rightful opportunities as admission processes move forward.

The panel, chaired by Dr. Jake Epele, is made up of university scholars, security operatives, representatives of Microsoft Africa, civil society groups, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Epele pledged that the assignment would be carried out with fairness and integrity. “Exam malpractice is more than a violation of rules—it undermines merit and endangers the future of our youth. Our responsibility is to safeguard credibility, restore trust, and affirm honesty as the true path to success,” he said.
