The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has unveiled plans to introduce artificial intelligence-driven lesson plans designed specifically for Nigerian classrooms.

The Registrar of the Council, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with GMIND AI. The collaboration will produce a digital platform that generates contextualised lesson plans and simulated classroom experiences for teachers nationwide.

According to Soyombo, the project is expected to transform teaching practices by easing the workload of teachers and improving the quality of education delivery. She explained that the system would not only generate lesson outlines but also embed local history, culture, and realities to make teaching more relatable to Nigerian learners.

The platform is scheduled to officially launch on October 6, following the unveiling of TRCN’s redesigned website on August 25. As part of the rollout, teachers across all six geopolitical zones will undergo nationwide training sessions to ensure effective adoption.

In her remarks, Soyombo stressed the importance of tailoring lessons to meet the needs of today’s learners, noting that students will engage better through simulated, hands-on experiences. She added that the platform will feature two resource categories: interactive lesson plans for teachers with digital skills, and simplified ready-to-use materials for educators with limited ICT knowledge.

The Council also confirmed that the resource bank will span all subjects, with materials accessible online, at TRCN offices, and in downloadable formats. Lesson content will be differentiated to cater to gifted, average, and struggling learners, ensuring inclusivity across the system.

Speaking at the event, GMIND AI’s Director of Strategic Partnerships, Dr. Deji Ajani, described the initiative as a pioneering step for education in Africa. He said the project was designed to blend advanced technology with Nigeria’s unique educational landscape, creating a model for other African countries.

The TRCN emphasised that the AI platform will initially be available to licensed teachers under its register, positioning the initiative as a landmark in modernising classroom instruction across the country.
