Tinubu Appoints Yakasai Vice Chancellor of New Zamfara University; Obih, Akinfeleye to Varsities’ Governing Councils

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

The appointment was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Other principal officers appointed for the university are Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Professor Yakasai, a retired Colonel from the Nigerian Army, is currently the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano. He is also the Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and a member of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

He obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later received a scholarship from the European Economic Commission for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, where he earned membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He also holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Winchester.

Yakasai later pursued the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS, USA) and the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons. He has served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.

The statement also announced the appointment of Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, to replace a deceased member.

In addition, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, a communications specialist and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, was appointed to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Akinfeleye is the Chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography and of Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television. He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, and replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
