The National Examinations Council (NECO) has revealed that 38 schools in 13 states were involved in whole school cheating during the 2025 Internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, announced this during the release of the 2025 Internal SSCE results yesterday.

According to Prof. Wushishi, 3,878 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractices, marking a 61.58% reduction compared to 10,094 cases in 2024. Nine supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, lateness, unruly behaviour, assault, and insubordination across states including Rivers, Niger, FCT, Kano, and Osun.

The implicated schools have been invited by NECO for discussions leading to appropriate sanctions. Prof. Wushishi described the 2025 Internal SSCE as one of the most successful in recent times, with results released 54 days after the last paper was written.

Examination Statistics

👉🏼 Registration: 1,367,210 candidates registered.

👉🏼 Attendance: 1,345,339 candidates sat for the examination.

👉🏼 Credits including Maths & English: 817,492 candidates (60.26%) achieved five credits and above.

👉🏼 Credits irrespective of Maths & English: 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) got five credits and above.

👉🏼 Special Needs Candidates: 1,622 candidates with various disabilities sat for the exam, including those with hearing impairment (941), visual impairment (191), Albinism (100), Autism (95), low vision (110), and Adermatoglyphia (185).

Notes

👉🏼 Results of eight schools in Adamawa State affected by a communal clash were not released; NECO is discussing with the government to conduct exams for these schools.

👉🏼 Candidates can access results on the NECO website using their registration numbers.

👉🏼 States owing NECO fees will not have results released until payment is made.

👉🏼 NECO is working towards incorporating Computer-Based Testing (CBT) with the 2025 external exams to be a mix of CBT and pen-on-paper.

Registrar's Remarks
Prof. Wushishi noted this might be his last year as NECO Registrar, expressing pride in implemented strides including reduced malpractices. He credited staff efforts in compliance and monitoring and awareness among students of consequences of exam misconduct.
