The University of Ilorin is set to mark its 40th Convocation Ceremony with a series of remarkable events that will feature President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioning newly completed projects on the institution’s campus.
According to a statement issued by the University Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, the convocation activities will run from Friday, October 17, to Sunday, October 26, 2025, featuring academic, religious, and cultural programmes.
The convocation lecture will be delivered by former Lagos State Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on the topic “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World.” The lecture is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 22, at the University Auditorium beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Mr Alfanla explained that President Tinubu’s visit to the campus will include the commissioning of several projects that demonstrate the institution’s steady growth and commitment to excellence.
The week-long event will begin with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque on Friday, October 17, followed by an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, October 19, at the Chapel of the Light.
A World Press Conference will be addressed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole, SAN, on Monday, October 20, to outline the University’s milestones and expectations for the convocation week.
The convocation play, titled “Joromi,” will take place on Tuesday, October 21, at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Graduands of four-year and diploma programmes will have their convocation on Wednesday, October 22, immediately after the convocation lecture, while students of five and six-year programmes and postgraduate graduands will have theirs on Thursday, October 23. That day will also feature the investiture of Emeritus Professors and the commissioning of projects by President Tinubu at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon at 4:00 p.m.
The convocation week will conclude with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, both scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
The Registrar assured that necessary logistics and security arrangements have been made to ensure the success of the entire event, urging graduands and guests to maintain orderliness throughout the ceremonies.
“We are proud of our graduands and grateful for their dedication to academic success,” Mr Alfanla stated. “This 40th Convocation is a celebration of excellence and a reaffirmation of UNILORIN’s position as a leading centre of learning in Nigeria and beyond.”
The 40th Convocation Ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, scholars, alumni, and parents.
