The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed deep disappointment and frustration over the Federal Government's apparent lack of sincerity and respect towards the nation's tertiary education system. The Union's Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr. Adefemi Afolabi, made this known on Thursday during an interview on "Situation Room," a radio programme in Ibadan.

HIGHLIGHTS ✍️

👉ASUU criticized the FG's continued neglect and delay in addressing key issues affecting public universities despite several efforts to reach an agreement.

👉The Union has commenced a two-week warning strike to protest the FG's failure to sign the renegotiated draft agreement reached with the Yayale Ahmed Committee.

👉Dr. Afolabi described the FG's decision to set up another panel as a lack of seriousness and respect for collective bargaining.

👉The exodus of experienced professors and newly recruited lecturers due to poor remuneration and unfavourable working conditions.

👉The growing disinterest among first-class graduates in pursuing academic careers due to poor prospects.

👉The dire consequences of neglecting lecturers' welfare and poor funding of universities on the future of higher education in Nigeria.

ASUU'S POSITION 😟

The Union reaffirms its commitment to engaging the government until meaningful progress is achieved in addressing the lingering issues affecting the education sector.

ASUU will not relent in its struggle to ensure improved welfare packages for its members and adequate funding for the revitalisation of public universities.
