The Kogi State Polytechnic has launched an investigation into a syndicate of nine suspects involved in alleged certificate racketeering and document falsification. This was disclosed by the Rector, Prof. Salisu Ogbo, at a news conference held on Friday in Lokoja.

According to Prof. Ogbo, the institution's management has suspended five staff members and arrested four students in connection with the scandal. The suspects were found to have manipulated academic records, forged National Diploma (ND) results, and sold 30 forged original certificates to prospective buyers.

The rector explained that the fraud was uncovered through intelligence reports and routine verification exercises carried out by the Admission, ICT, and Security Units of the institution. The suspects allegedly compromised the institution's security arrangements and tampered with security features on Statements of Result.

"We will not tolerate any form of misconduct that threatens the credibility and reputation of our institution," Prof. Ogbo said. "We assure the public, stakeholders, and the polytechnic community that our quality assurance measures and security mechanisms are fully active and uncompromised."

The rector assured that the institution will continue to expose and eliminate all forms of misconduct that could damage its reputation. The management is committed to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the institution.
