Redeemer’s University, Ede, has announced that a total of 1,341 undergraduates will be graduating during its 17th Convocation Ceremony, with 185 students earning First-Class Honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Akindele, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing held to mark both the 17th Convocation and the 20th Anniversary of the institution.
According to Akindele, the graduating class comprises 662 students with Second-Class Upper, 410 with Second-Class Lower, 79 with Third-Class, and 5 with Pass degrees.
Highlighting some of the major events, the Vice-Chancellor announced that Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, wife of a former Governor of Kwara State; Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries; and Mr. Kola Adeshina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Group, would receive honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society.
On academic milestones, Akindele revealed that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) had selected Redeemer’s University as one of only eight private universities in Nigeria approved to train TETFund-sponsored postgraduate candidates — a significant achievement given the existence of 168 private universities nationwide.
He further noted that the university had made remarkable progress on the global stage, entering the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, where it emerged second in Nigeria overall and first in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) categories.
The 17th Convocation Ceremony and 20th Anniversary Celebration are expected to feature a series of academic, cultural, and religious events honouring the achievements and growth of the university since its establishment.
