The management of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State (UNIMED), wishes to clarify that it has not increased tuition fees for returning students. The institution has been made aware of misleading reports suggesting a significant hike in tuition fees, which is not accurate.

According to Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, Vice Chancellor of UNIMED, the adjustment made was only applicable to newly admitted students, particularly those enrolled in professional programmes. This adjustment is necessary to sustain the quality of education offered by the university in view of current economic realities.

"We only adjusted the fees of freshers to be able to give them the best in the face of the current economic realities," Professor Adejuyigbe said. "There are a lot of incorrect narratives in some sections of the media on tuition at UNIMED."

The university has also engaged the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure that indigent students are captured in its student loan scheme. The fee schedule is transparent and available on the institution's official website.

The university's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, reiterated that there was no increase for returning undergraduates. "It is pertinent to put the records straight that the university did not increase fees of returning students as reported. All returning undergraduates are to pay the old fees," Oluyi said.

The clarification follows public concern after some reports claimed that tuition fees for certain courses had increased significantly. The university maintains that those figures applied only to newly admitted students and not to those already enrolled.
