The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confirmed that it will engage the Federal Government in a meeting scheduled ahead of Friday, November 21, 2025, when the one-month ultimatum issued to authorities expires.

The government reportedly extended an invitation to senior ASUU negotiators in what sources describe as a final move to conclude renegotiation efforts. Although the union acknowledged the invitation as coming late, its leadership stated that it would honour the meeting “as a responsible union.”

The outcome of the meeting will determine ASUU's next steps. After the session with government officials, the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to convene to review any offers presented and decide the union’s “next line of action.”

Members have been directed to remain calm, motivated, and prepared ahead of the NEC deliberations, with the union emphasising that unity remains its greatest strength. ASUU’s demands reportedly include the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN–ASUU Agreement, payment of withheld salaries, and improved funding for public universities.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has previously stated that the government has “literally met” many of the union’s demands, a claim ASUU disputes.
