The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has issued a stern warning to its graduates against engaging in misconduct, stating that any alumnus found guilty of such behavior will have their certificate withdrawn.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, delivered the warning on Friday at the 36th Convocation and Award of First Degrees of the university, where 2,747 students graduated.

Oladiji urged the graduates to turn current economic challenges into opportunities for creativity and innovation, emphasizing that their character would play a defining role in their future.

The Vice-Chancellor also reminded the graduates that the university reserves the right to withdraw their certificate if they misrepresent the institution anywhere.

"FUTA has received numerous accolades locally and internationally due to the accomplishments of its graduates," Oladiji said. "We will continue to support our alumni when necessary, but we expect them to uphold the values of the university."

A total of 2,747 students were awarded first degrees for the 2024/2025 academic session, including 240 First Class graduates. Aduragbemi Akindunbi, from the Department of Civil Engineering, emerged as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.98.

The Pro-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Nora Daduut, commended President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Initiative, describing it as a plan aimed at lifting the country to greater heights and enhancing its international standing.

Daduut highlighted the achievements of the institution's governing council, noting that it had maintained a cordial relationship with staff and students. She added that staff welfare remained a priority, with the council ensuring constant training and capacity building to enhance productivity.

The Pro-Chancellor also noted that no fewer than 3,000 students have benefited from the students' loan scheme introduced under President Tinubu's initiative aimed at easing access to tertiary education.
