The joint congresses of the four in-house unions of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, have commenced a two-week warning strike, The unions include the Academic Staff Union (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).

According to a statement signed by Dr. Murtala Abdullahi, Chairman of ASUU UMYU chapter, the unions had submitted critical issues leading to the trade disputes to the University Governing Council and the state government. Despite agreements and understandings reached, the state government has failed to fulfill its commitments.

The unions' demands border on condition of service, the future of members, security of examinations and records, and autonomy of the university. The ASUU chairman expressed disappointment that despite patience and additional time given to the government, there has been no meaningful response or action.

The unions have resolved to embark on this two-week warning strike to drive home their legitimate demands and compel the state government to demonstrate genuine commitment to resolving the issues. The unions appeal to students, parents, and the Katsina community for understanding and support.

At the end of the two weeks, if there are still no tangible progress from the government, the unions will reconvene to decide on the next course of action.
