The National Examinations Council (NECO) has granted accreditation to schools in Burkina Faso to host its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marking a significant expansion of its international presence.
In a statement issued Sunday by NECO's Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the accreditation follows a comprehensive assessment visit by an NECO team, evaluating facilities, teacher adequacy, and learning environments. "The schools were granted full accreditation after a thorough evaluation," Sani said.
"This move underscores NECO's commitment to delivering quality education and assessment services beyond Nigeria's borders," Sani added. "With its expanding global presence, NECO is poised to become a leading examination body in Africa."
NECO recently opened centres in London, UK, and operates in Togo, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, and Saudi Arabia.
Nigeria's Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Amb. M.D. Galadima, hailed the accreditation as a relief for Nigerian families, eliminating risks and costs of travelling to Nigeria for exams. "Parents had long grappled with challenges arising from differences in educational systems and lack of English language schools," he said.
Leader of the accreditation team, Uche Ezenwanne, noted the move reinforces NECO's position as Africa's foremost examination body, enabling Nigerian students in Burkina Faso to write SSCE/BECE locally.
