The Ekiti State Government has taken decisive action following allegations of unlawful kidney removal during surgery at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).
A surgeon has been dismissed, and other surgical team members have been suspended for one month, pending further review, based on the report of an Independent Panel of Enquiry chaired by Prof. Francis Faduyile.
The government has also approved:👇🏻
- Full cost coverage for a new kidney transplant for the patient, Mr. Joshua Afolayan.
- Post-transplant care and medical maintenance for 2 years.
- Reorganisation of EKSUTH departments to strengthen clinical governance and patient safety
The panel concluded the incident was a surgical complication, not organ harvesting. The government reaffirms support for EKSUTH health professionals while upholding professional standards.
