The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, to rescind the removal of Civic Education, Computer Studies, and Electrical Installation from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) portal, citing the subjects' critical role in national development.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Oboku Oforji (Yenagoa/Opokuma, Bayelsa State), highlighting the subjects' relevance in modern economies and digital literacy. "The timing is just not right," Oforji stressed, noting Computer Studies' universal appeal and Civic Education's role in nurturing responsible citizens.

The House expressed concern over students' distress, as the 2026 WASSCE looms in four months, limiting their subject choices and violating exam requirements. "Students in SS3 have diligently studied these subjects since SS1 – it’s academically impossible to switch now," Oforji added.

The motion, endorsed via voice vote, urges the Ministry to:
- Rescind the directive immediately.
- Allow SS3 students to write WASSCE in studied subjects.
- Set up an ad hoc committee to investigate and ensure compliance.

Background: On Sept 3, 2025, the Federal Government overhauled the national curriculum, merging subjects like Civic Education into "Citizenship and Heritage Studies," sparking confusion amid exam preparations.
