It is with profound sadness that the family of Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso announces his passing. The Chairman of the Council and Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Oyeweso, died at the age of 64 at a hospital in Ile-Ife today, Tuesday, December 2, following a successful surgery and brief illness.

A renowned historian, educator, and mentor, Prof. Oyeweso left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, colleagues, and political associates. He is survived by his wife, children, and other family members.

The family statement, released by Olawale Oyeweso, expressed deep sorrow at the loss. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd, at the age of 64 after a brief illness."

🪦 Funeral Arrangements ⚰️

The remains of Prof. Oyeweso will be laid to rest today, December 2, at his country home in Ede at 4 p.m., following the solar Ashri prayer.
