The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) chapter, has awarded scholarships worth N6.2m to 31 indigent students, demonstrating its commitment to equity and student welfare.

Each beneficiary received N200,000 to support payment of school fees and other approved charges for the 2025/2026 academic session. The scholarship scheme was funded by voluntary donations from University Council members and ASUU-OOU contributions.

"This gesture underscores ASUU's responsibility, solidarity, and commitment to student welfare," said Dr. Ganiyu Yinusa, ASUU-OOU Chairperson. "No qualified student should be denied access to university education due to financial constraints."

ASUU commended Council members for their sacrifice and encouraged beneficiaries to remain focused and committed to academic excellence. The union reaffirmed its role in promoting inclusive education and student development.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike.
