Federal University Lokoja is set to usher in a new chapter in its leadership as Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye prepares to be formally inaugurated as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of the institution. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to hold on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the main campus of the university, Lokoja.

The event is expected to attract key stakeholders from the education sector, members of the university community, government officials, and invited guests. Professor Ibileye's appointment marks a significant milestone in the history of the university, with expectations high for a leadership era focused on academic excellence, institutional growth, and stability.

Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye is a renowned Nigerian academic and the incoming Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, effective February 15, 2026. Born on June 7, 1966, in Kogi State, he has built a distinguished career in English Language studies and Applied Linguistics.

- Earned Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees in English Language from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, completing his doctorate in 2002.

- Obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDipEd) from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

- Specializes in Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Legal and Forensic Linguistics, and Political/Media Discourse

- Lecturer at ABU, Zaria, rising to Professor of English in 2010.

- Joined Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in 2012, holding key positions:
    - Director of General Studies

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike. The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law.
