The Nigeria Association of Social Science Lecturers (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have urged the Federal Government to expedite the renegotiation process of their agreements.

In a joint statement, the unions emphasized that further delays could jeopardize industrial harmony in universities, affecting academic activities and the overall education system.

The associations are calling on the government to prioritize the renegotiation to ensure timely resolution of outstanding issues and maintain stability in the university sector.

The renegotiation between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has led to a new agreement, which includes a 40% pay rise for lecturers, effective January 1, 2026. The agreement also addresses issues such as university autonomy, funding, and academic freedom.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has urged the Federal Government to expedite action on their pending renegotiation, warning that further delays could disrupt industrial harmony in universities.

Some of the key demands of NASU and SSANU include:👇🏻

- Payment of Withheld Salaries: Release of salaries withheld during previous strikes.

- Improved Remuneration: Better pay and benefits for non-academic staff.

- Earned Allowances: Payment of outstanding allowances.

- University Autonomy: Greater autonomy for universities.

- Funding: Increased funding for universities.

- Scrapping of IPPIS: Removal of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The Federal Government has promised to negotiate with SSANU and NASU over their demands, with the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, assuring that the government is committed to finding a resolution.
