The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has commenced a nationwide review of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) minimum standards and curriculum. The exercise, inaugurated at the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga, aims to strengthen teacher preparation and align training with national development priorities and global education trends.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, stated that the review is driven by the need to close gaps in teacher education and equip graduates for modern classrooms. The revised curriculum will introduce emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and digital skills, to prepare teachers for technology-driven learning environments.

The NCCE objective is to produce minimum standards that are academically sound, practically achievable, globally competitive, and responsive to contemporary classroom needs. The review is part of a broader reform agenda to reposition colleges of education for relevance, sustainability, and public trust.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike. The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law.
