History was made today, Friday, February 27, 2026, as the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, held its maiden matriculation ceremony for the pioneer students of the 2025/2026 academic session.


The event, held at the University Auditorium, marks a significant milestone for the institution, which has rapidly emerged as a "development template" for newly established federal universities in Nigeria. Under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor James Olugbenga Aribisala, the university officially formally admitted its first cohort of students into various programs across its four pioneer faculties: Engineering, Computer Science, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Environmental Sciences.

Commitment to Excellence and Character
Addressing the matriculants, Vice Chancellor Prof. Aribisala charged the new students to embrace a culture of diligence and discipline. He emphasized that FUTES is built on a foundation of "character and learning," aimed at producing 21st-century leaders capable of solving global challenges, particularly in technology and environmental sustainability.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including members of the Governing Council led by the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Binta Masi Garba, traditional rulers, and religious leaders. The presence of the local community underscored the strategic importance of the university to the socio-economic growth of Iyin-Ekiti and Ekiti State at large.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that FUTES is currently the only one among the eight recently approved federal universities to have fully commenced academic activities, a feat he attributed to strategic planning and the support of the Federal Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
